Unique Crosses
Just about every store you go in these days have crosses. They may not have a large selection of crosses. Sometimes these are the places you can find very unique crosses. Here in Texas we have a store called Dollar General (not a lot to offer). But they have low prices. I found a unique cross in there one day for about five dollars. Not expensive but it made a nice addition to my cross collection.
I like to look for unique crosses when I am on a trip somewhere. Usually being away from your atmosphere will bring new verity in unique crosses or anything else for that matter. Craft shows are a great place to look for unique crosses. If you are buying it for a gift, what are the chances they have one just like it, if you bought it at a craft show.
Online is another great place to find unique crosses. Try checking this cross out.

Homemade Crosses

Homemade Crosses
I not only like to collect crosses. I also have a passion for making homemade crosses. I am not an expert at homemade crosses or I would be selling my own crosses on line. I haven't even kept one homemade cross for myself. I usually make them for gifts for other people that I know have a special appreciation for homemade crosses or any other homemade items. When I spend that much time on homemade crosses I like to know some will enjoy them. I don't have an obsession with crosses. I just found, like myself, a lot of people share my passion with crosses. Could it be what it represents? Or could it be there is such a verity of them available? There is one for everyone. My homemade crosses are one of a kind. The ones made of mosaic are partially made from pottery I busted up myself. (My friends and family laugh at me when I tell them "That is my anger management class".)
I usually make them for a certain person. The blue one at the top I made for a very special lady on the first anniversary of her husbands death. They were married for over 50 years.

The homemade cross to the side symbolizes the flag. I made to pay tribute to all the men and women that have fought and died to make this the great country that it is. We may not all agree on war but we still need to support the men and women who give their all. "THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR DEDICATION AND SERVICE AND TO THE ONES THAT LOST LOVE ONES". May God bless you everyone.

Cross Collection
Passion for Cross Collections
This site was originally set up to share my passion for not only The Cross, but for my cross collection. I collect the Latin style cross. That's what this post will be about.
I have a deep passion for cross collection. My main passion is for wall crosses. My cross collection only consist of about 65. Are they all hanging? You ask. I am in the process of rearranging. So about 7 of those are not hanging at this time. I don't spread them out over the house. My collection is on a couple of walls in my living room. Not only so my hearts passion will be fulfilled, but they are also a great conversation piece. After the awe of them ware off. My visitors find some of the stories behind them to be interesting. Even my regular visitors always look to see if I have any new additions to my cross collection.
I would like to share a couple of stories that mean a lot to me. I guess this first one over time actually started my passion for collecting crosses. It was given to me by my secret sister at church. Her husband made it. A simple wooden cross but he
made it into a jigsaw puzzle (which I also love, he didn't know that). I put it together glued it and put a hanger on it and hung it up. That cross is very dear to me, I have had it for about 22 or 23 years. I no longer have contact with those friends but they are in my heart threw the cross.
The other reminds me of a song I heard that moved Gods spirit in me threw a rose. The name is "The Rose of Bethlehem" song by Selah. That Christmas my mom and dad gave me a cross to add to my collection. The cross l
ooks like it was carved from stone nothing fancy just plain and simple. Tied to the cross with three wraps of wire is a single rose. Is it a beautiful cross? Yes, but the beauty of it can only be seen through the words of this song, for one and for two they didn't know about the song. Out of all the crosses that's the one God wanted them to give me at that time. When I seen the cross my eyes immediately filled with tears as they do when I hear that song.
The crosses I have collected have come from many different means. I bought some of them myself. My children have made some in vacation Bible school. I have friends that gave me the most for gifts. Which actually keeps them from having a hard time on what to give me for birthdays or Christmas. I am always looking for a unique cross to add to my collection.

Crosses are Used

Crosses are used
Different crosses are used for many different things.
As we talked about in the first blog, the Latin cross is the most commonly known to everyone. This is the cross believed to have been used to crucify Jesus Christ. This cross is a symbol of Christianity to remind us that he died for the sins of all man kind. The cross is also on the Christian flag. The Latin cross has also served as grave markers for our heroes, kings and bishops. Many of today's churches even take on a cross shape floor plan.
The Gree

The Maltese is the most interesting looking cross. The Maltese cross with its eight sharp points was used as an emblem by an order of knights in the middle ages. The Maltese cross is also used on the Crusaders flag used by the Knights of St. John or Knights of Malta. In today's time our heroic firefighter badges are of the Maltese Cross emblem.

History of the Cross
The cross did not originate with the Crucifixion as most of us may think.

criminals long before the time of Christ. The prisoners had to carry the large beams to the place where they would die. This may have been an actual cross or it may have been a cross tie for a tree or another pole. The prisoners were attached to the beam or wood and then lifted to an up right possession. The prisoners were hung there until they died of dehydration or hunger.
Since this time the cross has became a sacred emblem of the Christian faith. The cross is a symbol of redemption, signifying Christ's death on the cross for the sins of humanity.
The cross has had an enduring part of the profession of the Christian faith. The use of the cross as the symbol of faith goes back at least as for as the A. D. hundreds.

Different Crosses

Different Types of Crosses
There are many different crosses that come in many different shapes. Every shape of cross represents a different Nationality or a different religion. The most common cross that we know comes from the Latin descents (as shown to the left). The cross acknowledged by the Greek may look like the one to the right similar to the one the Red Cross uses. St. Anthony's cross reminds me of a capital T (as shown at the bottom of the page). Where as the St. Andrew's cross is more like a large x. The cross titled the Maltese is the most interesting shape cross to me. It takes on the look of a badge less like a cross like the others. The Calvary cross is much like the Latin but seems to have stairs leading up to it. The Patriarchal takes on the same look as the Latin and the Calvary but has another cross tie mid way up to the top. These are some different crosses I found to be rather interesting. In the next blog I will get into some meanings, which I found to be as interesting as the different crosses themselves.
